Angela Rippon chairs the Prime Minister’s Dementia Challenge Champion Group on Dementia Friendly Communities. The 34-strong Champion Group includes representatives from a wide range of services including banking, retail, leisure, police and fire services who aim to lead the movement to tackle the isolation felt by people with dementia and their carers.

A recent report from the Alzheimer’s Society found as many as 67% of people with dementia often do not feel part of their community; the Dementia Friendly Communities initiative aims to galvanise hundreds of villages, towns and cities into making day to day activities, such as shopping and using public transport easier for people with dementia.
Work in schools is also going on to ‘build a Dementia Friendly Generation’ and the Chief Fire Officers Association has launched a Fire and Rescue Services’ Pledge on Dementia.
