PLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL 14TH OCTOBER
Our awareness raising event ‘A Scarf for Lewy’ is now getting closer and we are delighted with the response and the level of support so far. In case you’ve missed it, we’re going to be wrapping a huge scarf around the Royal Albert Hall on 22nd September, to raise awareness of Lewy body dementia.
The scarves are flooding in from across the UK, and from further afield such as the USA. Some of the scarves are beautiful with intricate patterns, multiple colours or dots. Others are simple and are a first attempt at knitting. They have all been knitted with love and a desire to support the project, and we value every single one!
Many of the scarves have been accompanied by moving letters, and we know that the project has helped some people through their grieving and healing, and helped them remember loved-ones. We have also received multiple scarves from groups who have knitted together. You can view lots of the scarves and letters on our social media pages.
All of this helps get people talking about Lewy body dementia which is what the project is all about.
We are still accepting scarves until Monday 15th August and the details of where to send your scarf are available here.
Support for the project
We would like to thank Vicky Hands who came up with the idea for the event and is coordinating the scarves, including sewing them together by hand. Vicky’s husband is living with Lewy body dementia and she has been a fantastic supporter of our work for several years.
Our sincere thanks also go to Green Tree Court care home in Devon which is receiving all the scarves.
We would also like to thank our celebrity supporters Dame Prue Leith, Anne Robinson and Paula Wilcox who have all donated a scarf.
We have received some fantastic media coverage for the project, with coverage in the Independent, Daily Mail, Evening Standard, Irish News and lots of local newspapers. We are working to secure as much coverage on the day as possible, to raise awareness of Lewy body dementia.
Helping on the day
We need help on the day to unwrap and hold the scarf, and you can register for this online here. We don’t yet know the exact timings but expect it to be around 10-11am.
